Qualifications: Qualifications: Associate s Degree in Legal Studies or closely related field. 5 years of progressively responsible legal assistant or paralegal experience, preferably in a governmental setting; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Paralegal certification by an accredited association or university. Knowledge of the principles and practices applied in researching municipal/legal issues, and the various sources of available information. Knowledge of legal terminology, and the application of such to various forms of legal documentation. Knowledge of the general aspects of the law. Skilled in both oral and written communications. Skilled in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software. Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems. Ability to operate necessary equipment, including personal computer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine and other standard office equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. Ability to maintain contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the public. Ability to type at 45 c.w.p.m. and achieve 63% accuracy on the grammar test.

Job Description:
Paralegal
Duties: Performs file reviews. Coordinates and sets hearings, depositions, mediations, and draft pleadings. Drafts responses to discovery requests. Reviews medical records and draft medical summaries. Performs legal research as needed. Maintains the trial calendar. Assists City Attorney in all aspects of trial preparation, including drafting of witness lists, exhibit lists, subpoenas, jury instructions, verdict form and motions. Prepares exhibits for trial. Schedules witnesses. Performs transcription of dictation in the form or pleadings, correspondence, legal opinions, memorandums and briefs. Composes, transcribes, types, and distributes correspondence as required; organizes and maintains filing system. Schedules and organizes City Attorney s calendar. Participates in preparation of the City s annual budget including data entry, data collections and preparation of reports as directed by the City Attorney. Monitors department expenditures and reconciles with budget. Researches, reviews and analyzes data for special projects as assigned. Prepares department specific reports and ensures the accurate and timely printing of department reports, records, and correspondence. Oversees the use of procurement cards, payroll and other bookkeeping functions. Implements organizational and procedural changes affecting administrative office activities. Oversees and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel. Performs all daily clerical functions, including telephone and assists with receptionist duties. Performs other duties as assigned by the City Attorney.
