Qualifications: Requirements : The candidate should be 1st, 2nd or 3rd year law student at an accredited university working towards a Jurisprudence Doctorate. Should have familiarity with research techniques or law enforcement is also a plus. Must possess typing and computer skills and have knowledge of legal terminology, court procedure and legal ethics is required to perform services for Agency. Must have ability to communicate effectively with other employees, clients and the general public in a professional, courteous and concise manner required. Must have the ability to interact with people in varying positions and from different walks of life and a strong desire to work with the indigent community, and a willingness to work under pressure while dealing with unexpected situations and deadlines. Should have a valid Driver's license. Should have knowledge of established policies and procedures.

Job Description:
Law Clerk
Duties : Will research and prepares legal documents, memorandums, briefs and motions for Public Defender's approval and filing. Research legal issues, and helps Public Defenders interview victims, witnesses, and police officers to prepare cases for trial and/or please agreements. Answers and places phone calls at the Deputy Public Defenders' directives. Creates and maintains electronic files on the Agency's database system One Note and PDIS. Creates and maintain case files, and close files at end of case. Provides assistance in preparing clients for court hearings/trial. Aids in securing documents and witnesses for deposition and trial, including certified copies of documents, pictures, reports, photographs through the appropriate channels. Provides assistance to other paralegal staff in processing case data for hearing/trial. May assist Deputy Public Defenders in court by taking notes, assisting with client family members, and providing basic information at the direction of the attorneys. Confers with attorneys to discuss work processes, plans or actions to be taken, provides follow up on case assignments and identify any further action in a timely manner, receives guidance and instruction. Secures proper courtroom attire for clients for trial, when necessary. Operates a variety of general office equipment, including a computer, copy machine, and fax.
