Legal Secretary I
The candidate's duties include: Will perform paraprofessional work of routine difficulty in a variety of legal secretarial and office duties; performs related work as required or assigned. As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Answers and directs incoming calls; formats and types letters, memoranda, and various legal documents from copy, rough draft, and dictating machine; files documents with the appropriate court; files correspondence, memoranda, and other legal materials; processes and logs incoming documents; interviews petitioners; provides disclosure information to attorneys; maintains calendars. Should have (1) year clerical office experience which includes the use of legal terminology; OR, an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities of this classification; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license and ability to be covered by county insurance. Must have knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and grammatical usage; modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; legal terminology and legal forms. Should have skill in: use of a typewriter, word processor, and the taking and transcribing of oral dictation; data collection through personal interviews; using simple arithmetic, addition, and subtraction; carrying out instructions furnished orally or in written forms; giving simple oral and written instructions to other persons. Ability to: plan and carry out assignments with minimum supervision; maintain records and prepare reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public; follow written and verbal instruction; communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
