Assistant Corporation Counsel -Litigation
The candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of complex legal services for city/county agencies and officials. Will handle complex litigation and research assignments. Prepares complaints, answers, discovery, motions, briefs and other legal documents. Conducts and participates in depositions and hearings. Will represents local governmental agencies in court, including hearings, conferences, trials, mediations and oral arguments in both state and federal court. Renders advice to governmental agencies, officials and employees with regard to litigation and settlement of lawsuits. Offers advisory legal opinions particularly with regard to litigation or potential litigation. Performs related duties as requested. Will be collecting and reviewing documents, researching and offering legal opinions and in handling litigation. Actions are subject to review on a continuing spot check basis by the Corporation Counsel, Deputy Corporation Counsel and Chief Litigation Counsel. Interactions require extreme tact, diplomacy and persuasiveness in dealings with private and public attorneys, judges, court personnel, elected and appointed officials and the general public. Will also work closely with office support staff to assure timely preparation of legal documents. Will exhibit tact in working with other professionals and support staff within respective section. Will also exhibit incentive and independent judgment in driving and resolving lawsuits.
