Job Description:
Attorney III
The candidate will under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel of the Labor Commissioner s Office: Defends the Labor Commissioner s Office in the most difficult court actions and proceeding, such as public works, retaliation complaint, and civil multi-claimant litigated cases, in both state and federal trial and appellate courts. In the most difficult and complex cases brought by the Labor Commissioner, prepares pleadings, petitions, and briefs, and conducts litigation before the trial and appellate courts of California and the United States. these include public works, retaliation complaint, and civil multi-claimant litigated cases. Assumes responsibility for the preparation and filing of Administrative rules. May act as lead person over lower level legal staff. Analyzes and evaluates proposed legislation affecting the Labor Commissioner s Office and makes recommendations to the State Labor Commissioner. Corresponds and consults with the Attorney General s office on legal matters involving tort actions against the Labor Commissioner s Office or its agents. Performs other work as assigned. Must have 6+ years of legal experience in the practice of law.
