# Job Opening: Legal Assistant

The Public Defender for the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida is seeking an experienced and highly motivated legal assistant to join their fast-paced, client-centered office. This is an excellent opportunity to join an organization dedicated to providing high-quality legal representation to individuals in jeopardy of losing their life or liberty who cannot afford to hire a private attorney.

## Position Type and Description

The legal assistant is a full-time position that is expected to support attorneys by gathering, requesting and reviewing records, data entry and retrieval, generating letters/legal documents, appointment scheduling, and intake interviews.

## Requirements and Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry
- Excellent verbal, written, computer, communication and interpersonal skills
- English/Spanish and/or English/Creole preferred

## Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $37,440. Depending on qualifications, educational background, and required relevant experience, qualified candidates may start at a higher salary. In addition, the following benefits are offered:

- Health insurance
- Annual leave - 15 days per year
- Sick leave - 12 days per year
- Paid holidays - 13 days per year
- $25,000 life insurance policy - paid by the State of Florida
- Optional employee-paid supplement insurance plans available (additional life insurance, vision, dental, cancer, hospitalization, and disability)
- State retirement benefits - vesting after 8 years in the pension plan or after 1 year for the investment plan
- Deferred compensation - option of saving a portion of monthly salary in a tax-sheltered account
- Free tuition for a college course on a space-available basis
